Google Inc has developed applications for all fields. After making themselves famous thanks to their great search engine, the company has started to widen its reach and nowadays it offers users a good collection of great quality utilities like: its email service (Google Mail), photograph hosting (Picasa), video hosting (YouTube and Google Video), world maps (Google Maps), ad services (AdSense), online organizers and documents (Google Calendar and Google Docs),... and of course, as it couldn't be otherwise,
their own instant messenger client.
Thus,
Google Talk is an
instant message and
VoIP client developed by Google. It uses a
free protocol, known as Jabber, that is based on the XML standard.
To start using it all we will require is a free Google account. As usual, to go into the application you will have to input your account name and password.
With
Google Talk it is possible to maintain
conversations with your contacts from the application or from the electronic mail web page, take part in
video conferences, send messages to disconnected users, save your conversation history in your email account, customize your avatar and the chat window, voice calls, etc...
